The Sandcastle Challenge
Consider This Story

Once upon a weekend trip to the beach, three friends—Ben, a creative dreamer, Amira, a meticulous planner, and Harris, a logistics genius—decided to spend the sunny afternoon building a sandcastle together.
“It has to be the biggest, most impressive sandcastle on this beach," Ben declared, already sketching out dramatic towers in the sand.
“Big is fine, but we need something structurally sound,” Amira replied. “We need details, measurements, and a good plan.”
Harris, surveying the tides and the number of buckets they had, chimed in, “And I’ll make sure we have all the tools and enough water from the sea to keep the whole thing together.”
Excited but each wrapped up in their own ideas, they got to work. However, instead of collaborating, they took separate corners of the plot. Ben piled heaps of sand, envisioning towering spires. Amira drew sand diagrams and recalculated angles for the walls. Harris sprinted back and forth, fetching water but had no clear guidance on where it was needed most.
After an hour, they paused to look at their progress—or lack of it. Ben's heap had collapsed, Amira’s perfect designs remained untouched, and Harris stared at an assembly line of untouched tools and water buckets.
“This isn’t working,” Amira admitted. “We’re all trying hard but doing it alone isn’t getting us anywhere.”
Ben scratched his head. “Maybe... maybe we need to combine our ideas? Talk it through together?”

The three friends gathered around and started sharing their thoughts. Amira turned Ben’s wild imagination into actionable strategies, suggesting which towers to focus on first and how to fortify them. Harris refined Amira’s ideas further, ensuring their plan considered how the tide might affect their masterpiece. Ben ensured there was creativity infused into all aspects of their work—sculpting seashell-framed doors and a dramatic flag made from driftwood and seaweed.
Together, step by step, they built a magnificent sandcastle. It had Harris’s rock-solid walls, Amira’s perfect layouts, and Ben’s theatrical towers. People walking by stopped to admire their work.
That night, they sat by the campfire, watching the tide slowly claim their castle.
“We built something awesome,” Harris said.
“And honestly, the process of working together was the best part,” Amira added with a smile.
“It wasn’t just the castle,” Ben agreed. “It was what we learned from each other and how we made it possible as a team.”
